I need to find the ID code for my GPS.?

I have a Garmin Legend C and need the ID code (10 digits) to get an unlock code for a new map. I found the serial number (7 digits) but cannot fine the ID code. I have looked in all the menus on the unit, including “setup” and have found nothing. The hold time on the phone for Garmin is 30minutes they say. Can anybody give me any help?

In terms of screen resolution, does Garmin nuvi 660 (4.3 Inch) have more pixels than nuvi 350 (3.5 Inch), or they have same number of pixels but 660 simply has larger individual pixel size to fill the larger screen?

The 660 has more pixels. The 660 is 480×272 while the 350 is 320×240.

I have the tomtom, and actually dont like it at all, but my grandmother has the Garmin and we used it to go to New York, and it was wonderful. I loved it, it is soooo easy to use, and it is so quick at recalculating if you miss a turn or something it recalculates a new rout for you in seconds, and my Tom tom doesnt do that it takes forever, and its very complicated to use. Im not a big technology person, so I like things that are easy to use, so in my own experience the Garmin Nuvi is the best, and ive actually heard alot of other people say the exact same thing. My cousin has the magellen and I think she had it for like 6 months and it fell apart she said it was a cheap piece of crap. The Garmin is usually one of the pricier ones but its definately worth the extra money, and I know this Friday I think its WalMart has a great deal on a garmin, its only like $89.00, last year when I bought my grandmothers it was 300, so thats definately a great deal. What kind of map do I purchase for GPS?

I own a garmn etrex vista and would like to see some detail on my maps. I only have the basemap that came with the unit currently. I am new to the gps world so any explainations would be helpful.

You will have to decide between two types of maps. Road or Topo. Garmin sells both and you can use both in one unit. You can view the maps on the appropriate page (it matters what the initials are after Vista (the HCx maps are at https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=8703#mapTab)
If you go to a map page, you can select the view map tab and get a preview of what detail is on the map.

I have the road map and it works for most things but it does not have topo lines and some lakes are missing. It seems that there are too many lakes in Minnesota for the road map makers to collect all this “non-road” data. It also does not include the regionall (over 100 miles in our metro area) bike trails and no hiking trails.

The topo maps are based on the USGS maps and include all that information.

Handheld GPS Units for Dummies

Todays handheld GPS units can mean the difference between trekking aimlessly through the woods, hopelessly lost, and finding your way to safety and once again surviving the great outdoors. Though, in todays society, its not all to uncommon for people to lose their way downtown or in the neighboring town. Its not just the wilderness. How many times have you found yourself late to a meeting because you missed your turn or drove by your exit?

Thus, handheld GPS units and Auto GPS systems have come into our lives. With the range in brands, styles and sizes, the application of the handheld GPS units have increased dramatically. Now, these units have become increasingly smaller and are even pocket sized. Yet, with the same great technology that can show the owner as to where they are in within the world simply by pressing a button.

The handheld GPS units locate the owner with a special operation tool that adds the position based on elevation with other factors to come up with a rounded area estimate that designates the users position in the world. Hopefully, by knowing their location, the owner can find their way out of the woods or the city. Where ever they may happen to be lost.

The biggest advantage of the handheld GPS units, besides that it helps you find your position, is its size. So, instead of trying to find lots of space for your large GPS gadget, you can simply toss the handheld GPS units in your pocket or clip it to your belt until, god forbid, it is needed again.

This, of course, is a great way to find your position with help from a friendly voice guiding you. The voices from the GPS unit can certainly help to give comfort in otherwise stressful times. So, it seems that using the handheld GPS units is a great way to aid in finding your position and an awesome way to save the owner from the potential disaster of being utterly lost.
