I’m looking at buying an Iphone 3G at christmas. At the moment I have an iPod touch 2g which has been the best gadget I have ever purchased. I understand that the iPhone will be very similar to the iPod touch except from having a phone/gps etc. What i’m worried about is whether (unlike the iPod touch) you have to pay to use your own wifi which is in my house. Is this true? Thanks for any help

I want a GPS for my trip to Europe. Will it be any use to me after I return my rental car? How do I charge it?

I want a portable device that will go in the car when I get home. However when I am in Europe I want to use it when walking in cities. Does this make sense? If so, would the Garmin Nuvi 255w be a reasonable choice.

Pretty much any Nüvi would do what you want - it’s largely a tradeoff of ‘bells and whistles’ vs. price.
Assuming that ‘home’ is North America (it often is when people consider it’s unnecessary to say 8^( ) - do be aware that you will probably have to buy extra maps for Europe, or get one of the ‘dual’ models, such as the 275W. If you got a Europe map card - you may be able to on-sell it, or possibly get a used one now on Ebay. I think you need a charger like https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=11190 to charge it if you don’t have a car. I’m pretty sure they don’t charge through USB.
