The Top Three GPS Models Reviewed

There is a standing joke that has been translated into many languages that tells of men possessing a genetic aversion to asking directions. Despite it being slightly prejudiced there is an element of truth that every man must face up to in their heart of hearts. Instinctual global geographical awareness is as much a trait of manhood than walking over hot coals, wrestling a rutting stag or leaving the toilet seat up.

With new satellite technology the Global Positioning Device, or GPS means that men never have to ask for directions ever again. This article examines three leading GPS models from three separate manufacturers in an impartial assessment of price against features.

The first is not technically a GPS model but a Bluetooth connection that will turn your mobile into a GPS. For 60GBP you can turn your mobile into a navigator with the Wayfinder Bluetooth GPS receiver. It is effective with quick satellite pick-up and it is compatible with any software. The issue is not the performance, but the cost. The initial outlay is reasonable however you have to pay an annual charge to avoid astronomical call costs in receiving.

The TomTom 1 is as no thrills as GPS gets. At an RRP of 150BGP which has now been dropped to 95GBP online it is by far the cheapest effective GPS system on the market. It is small, compact and accurate however the only drawback is that there is nothing beyond the GPS, so if you are looking for something more than basic destination access then this is not for you.

Finally the TomTom Go 730 is a step up in features from the 530 and a generation down from the 930. The only thing missing are the maps of North America and this combines the legendary TomTom simplicity with extra features such as Bluetooth and FM radio to keep you occupied, even your incoming text messages can be linked with GPS to be read out. The price is literally the only issue as 300GBP is a hefty price to pay for not asking directions.

Technology is changing the way in which we travel. The latter GPS model boasts advanced lane guidance which can instruct you which lanes to be in. That is pretty scary when you think about it, that satellites can monitor our every movements, however the loss of a little freedom is well worth it so long as we never have to ask directions

What’s the best GPS for the money which includes free lifetime traffic?

I’m in the market to buy my first GPS and want some help deciding which one to buy.
I would like to have free lifetime traffic updates.
And, speech recognition would be nice.
Also, having text to speech, bluetooth, FM receiver, MP3, multiple trip routing, where am I, lock with password.
Any suggestions/reviews from someone that owns a GPS with the above features and is so happy with it that they can recommend it would be greatly appreciated.

What is the best portable GPS system for a car?

I don’t need to play mp3 files with it. Traffic conditions might be helpful. Reliability and ease of use, and one that speaks directions out loud, are important. I can spend up to $800 but don’t want something that expensive if something cheaper will do what I need. I want to attach it to windshield, easily removable. Microsoft Dynamics GP Supply Chain Management Extensions: WMS, Consignment and Barcoding

Microsoft Dynamics GP or as it was formerly known Great Plains Dynamics, is powerful mid-market Corporate ERP platform, open for custom software development, integration and reporting.  When you are looking for Barcode scanning solution for Dynamics GP, you may think about “Solution” as being something based on existing Dynamics GP ISV product with source code, where you order additional modifications to fit your unique Barcoding requirements.  Modern store management systems require Barcoding and this is where you need to do your homework to pick, first – direction (external standalone SCM or WMS system, or something that works directly within GP, extending Great Plains screens and objects and enabling them for barcode and RFID technologies).  We already published several overview level publications on comparison between external WMS and Warehouse Management Extensions.  This paper is to bring you more details on WMS and more general Supply Chain Management extensions:

Classic Warehouse Management System mapping to Dynamics GP standard modules and transactions.  In our approach or add-on we are taking traditional routes: WMS Sales Order Fulfillment goes to Dynamics GP SOP Sales Transaction Entry form, where you define SOP type with manual allocation (as Item line allocation is done on the Warehouse floor by barcode scanning).  WMS Inventory replenishment naturally maps to GP POP Purchase Receipt (where such advanced logic as new Lot Number scanning is available).  And Inventory moving from one site to another or quantity adjustment and physical count are all available in Great Plains Inventory module

2. Modern Barcode scanner.  This devise is far more advanced in comparison to simple computer keyboard (however it can still work as Keyboard replacement, working in more accelerated manner).  Modern Symbol scanner allows you to run Warehouse Management System client application on its OS and for the user on its screen, where you can automate WMS document entry and then submit it to Dynamics GP for real time or batch mode integration

3. WMS architecture.  Warehouse Management System extension has two tiers: WMS client (running directly on the barcode scanner) and WMS server, installed on Windows computer, connected to your Warehouse Ethernet, Wireless or Optical network.  WMS client respects limitations of the tiny computer, integrated with the scanner and deploys technologies, requiring minimal RAM, processor power, such as Microsoft Visual Basic (pre .Net flavor).  This client application talks to Warehouse Management System Server via RFID and the Server itself talks to Dynamics GP via ODBC connection, allocating SOP Sales Order Lines, etc.

4. Consignments.  If you are in food ingredients or restaurant supply business and you work on the consignment, we have optional logic available, where we optimize truck delivery, based on best days of the week and the optimal truck arrival time (from your franchisee or customer perspective)

5. Advanced Supply Chain Management.  If you are assembling or manufacturing on the order, where order comes from your customers via EDI or eCommerce order placement channels, we have both source codes available to help you with “solution”

6. can a garmin nuvi 265 be used as a marine gps?

i have a garmin gps 72 handheld but i cant find detailed marine maps. i also have a nuvi 265 and somebody told me i could get mapsource marine maps for my 265… is this true????if not does anybody know where i can find detailed marine maps of south louisiana for my gps 72?

You may go to the Garmin site and search for marine maps for your nuvi 265. I am not sure whether they are available.

The Garmin 72 is a marine friendly handheld. It is waterproof and floats. Have you tried a google search for the particular area maps you are looking for? Your Garmin 72 has some buoy and marine information pre loaded in it.

What is the difference between the Garmin Etrex vista cx and GPSMap 60 CSX?

Does anyone know the difference performance-wise between these 2 models? I have seen a comparison chart but I couldn’t find anything that would explain the price difference…
I am looking for a handheld GPS unit that would load topographical maps on it (for hiking).
Any recommendation would be much appreciated!

I have a Vista HCx and really like the improved sensitivity of the receiver (the H in the name). The Vistas are smaller for carrying.
The Cx is not as sensitive of a receiver but the batteries last longer. More sensitivity can be important if you are under heavy tree cover.
With the X models, you can pack a lot of maps onto a micro SD card. A 2 gig card only costs about $30.

I would recommend going to Garmin’s web page and sending their support group the question. They know some of the details that are not obvious in the specs.
You can also download the manuals from the site and get an idea of other differences in the screens.
