My deactivated cell phone suddenly has 2 new voicemails? huh?
I used to use a GPS flip phone from USCellular about 5 years ago. I’ve kept it deactivated for 5 years and never needed it until my current cell phone was stolen a week ago.
My old phone has all my contacts in it plus the correct time so I charged it up and have been using it for the sole purpose of letting me know what time it is and my alarm in the morning. I’ve been doing this for about a week now and this morning, I wake up to discover 2 new voicemails on my phone.
I have no idea how they got there considering my old number is now being used by another person. When I try to check my voicemail, it tells me it can only do so if it’s a collect call which it wont allow because I cant answer my own phone.
Please help! Why do I have voicemails? How are people calling me if my phone is shut off? Can I check my voicemails?
The only thing I can think of is that indeed, your number has been recycled, and is in use by another person. Your phone’s serial number is still in their computer systems somehow, and is alerting the phone of new voicemail now that you’ve plugged it in. It’s still registering with the tower and confusing the voicemail system’s computers.. They aren’t calling you, they’re calling the person who has been assigned your old number. They aren’t your voicemails, they are intended for the person who now has your old number.

Is There a Good Handheld GPS for Both Road (Turn-by-turn) and Hiking (Topographical)?
I would like to be able to use a handheld GPS for (1) driving by car and (2) hiking.
I would like the unit to (1) show turn-by-turn directions while driving and (2) give a topographical map for hiking.
Thanks much for your ideas.
The best for you would probably be a Garmin 76CSX or a Garmin 60CSX. They are both handheld and basically both the same except for different shape. On any handheld it won’t come with street or topographical maps, but you can definitely purchase the software separately and then send it over to the unit form your PC. Garmin has street software that is compatible with these units that has very detailed information with basically every street in America. When put on either of these units, it will give you turn by turn directions. They also have Topo maps. Also, when you get the software, you can transfer all the information you have (like the actual coordinates of the entire track you logged through a hike) from the unit and view on the maps on your computer. You can also create routes before you leave on your computer and send them over to the unit to navigate it when your hiking or driving. They also both have a barometric altimeter and electronic compass that will tell you your altitude which is great for hiking in the wilderness. you can transfer your altitude logs to your PC as well!
The units cost about $400-$450 dollars.

Whenever I try to insert or remove an SD card, the screen goes back up too quickly. What can be done about this?
Instead of pressing the eject disk button, lower the screen incrementally so there’s enough room to access the SD card slot. -

We tested iPod compatibility using a 3rd generation iPod Nano 4GB. Furthermore, a second generation iPhone 3g was used to test iPhone compatibility. -
When the DVD is playing I have trouble accessing the menu. What can be done?
The secret to menu access is to remember that by touching the video playing portion of the screen you bring up the menu. If you tap outside of the video area you adjust the screen. -

This is one of the best car DVD players we’ve tested, but more surprisingly the user manual is great too. We’re sure you’ll find it very helpful. -
Can this car multimedia system support USB drives and SD cards greater than 2GB?
In our tests, we loaded media onto a 4 GB USB thumb drive and connected it to the car DVD player using a mini SD / female USB extension cable. The unit didn’t have any trouble accessing the files. We also loaded media onto a 4 GB microSD, put that into an SD card adapter, inserted that into an SD card reader and connected the whole assembly to a mini SD / female USB extension cable. No problems there. We also inserted a 8 GB SD card into the SD media card slot and this also went smoothly. -

Yes, the antennas come with very powerful magnets. Not as strong as Magneto’s mutant powers, but pretty strong. They’ll stay stuck on despite the rockiest ride. -

Handheld GPS for hunting, fishing and snowmobile?
Hello, I’m looking for a high value GPS unit what I can use for hunting, fishing and locating snowmobile and ATV tracks. What GPS is the best value and enable me to plot locations and navigate through the woods? Will I be able to mark the cabin and be directed back or mark the tree stands? Also will I have to purchase maps? Thanks let me know…Ive listed a couple below, What do you think?

Just check the features of whatever you want to buy. Accuracy with today’s integrated GPS chips will not be significantly different from one model to another. You will see prices come down and features go up soon, as the “dedicated GPS unit” is a dying breed with the new free GPS mapping available on all the new Android devices, and Nokia now announced it would also be including free Turn-by-turn navigation. Dedicated GPS unites will be a niche-market for people like yourself who want it for back-woods use where there may not be a cellular signal available. (The cell phone based units have to download the maps with each use, so if you don’t have a cell signal, you can’t get the maps.)
To compete with “free” the GPS makers are going to have to drop prices even further, and increase the features available to the consumer.
When picking a unit, keep in mind the cost of the “yearly” fees to keep maps up to date… Although if you don;t care about getting the latest roads, attractions etc, you would not necessarily HAVE to subscribe to an update, as the maps you get (and I would assume be able to update at least once or for a few months or the first year…) do not “expire” and go away, they just aren’t updated… Kind of like using last years atlas to plan a trip 
Garmin, Magellan, Tom-Tom make their own units, I’m sure the Bushnell is manufactured for them by one of the other big players in the GPS field.

TomTom One XL Review
TomTom One XL has a bright screen and pre-loaded maps right out of the box. It also picks up your location quickly and has built in bluetooth capabilities. The main difference between the XL and the One is that the XL has a larger screen 4.3″ compared to it’s predecesser at 3.5″ and an option for real-time traffic via a bluetooth enabled device such as a cell phone. This unit is compact and very portable.
What is great about the TomTom One XL Gps?
The TomTom One XL has a large, bright touch screen and comes with pre-loaded maps right out of the box. This unit picks up your location quickly and has built in bluetooth. This also enables you to add optional services, like real-time traffic and weather information as long as you have a bluetooth enabled cell phone. I don’t believe this service is available in the united states at this time. I also do not no if it will ever be available in the US for this device. It has a large choice of routes including the fastest, shortest, non-toll roads, highways and more. This GPS also speaks instructions very clearly.
What is not so good about the TomTom One XL?
The unit does have text-to-speech capability. Restaurants are not listed by type in the POI database. It is not easy to view contact information. The menus are a bit laborous to get through. Bluetooth cannot be used for hands free.
TomTom One XL features include, and SD card slot, which allow you add additional maps and POI.
There is a power button located on the top of the unit, which is easy to press.
The TomTom has the mini-USB power inlet/connection on the bottom.
It has a 2D and 3D map perspective as with most Gps’s these days.
This unit uses an internal lithium ion battery that the manufacturer estimates will last 2 hrs, but it does include a car power adapter.
The TomTom One XL offers numerous POI like, gas stations, motels, restaurants, ATMs, beaches and concert locations. However there is no easy way to search for these locations unless you are browsing the map.
You do have the option of choosing between 55 different voices with various accents that are built in to the device.

What the TomTom One XL offers is ease of use, a large, bright touch screen, accurate directions, and quickly finds your location.
In my opinion this is not a bad gps but you can get more for the same price in other gps units.
The price at the time of this article ranges from $229-$300 for this unit.
