My GPS (Garmin nuvi 255w) froze and IDK WHAT TO DO?!?
So today I went to use my GPS and as soon as I turned it on it loaded to the Agreement screen and then shut itself off. I assumed that the battery ran out, so I went to my car and plugged it in and then it got to the agreement screen and just froze. The touchscreen wouldn’t work at all. I tried repeating it about 10 times to get it to work and still nothing! Is there a reset button or something for it? Someone help me pleaseeeee
most ppl buy these gps because of the name and then find out they are hard to use or break easy. even if you want to get something as simple as spoken street names or turn it on and navigate. why not find one of those yahoo experts here who keep promoting ppl to buy these hard to use gps devices. you notice they do not answer questions like yours, they only try to sell you something. sheesh, that sucks.
i dont have the answer for you and i wish i did because i would answer you straight away to help you out. i have a newelectronx gps & i love it. if i need tech support then i just contact newelectronx certified technicians directly. i dont have to come to yahoo answers and wish that a guru finds my questions and hopefully gives me an answer that make sense. this is why i wish i could help you.
it sucks, because you get what you pay for. next time buy a gps that can give tech support or at least take it back to the store and ask them how to use the darn thing or return it and buy another gps that will work for you. here is a good link if you are planning to buy a gps:
http://www.newelectronx.com/help.php?faq_id=246
now that i think about it, i have never needed to contact newelectronx about technical help for my gps. it was easy to use right out of the box. any ways, good luck to you. hope this helps.

Using a Portable GPS for Valley Flying — TAA Thinking
Is the glass cockpit in airplanes a bad idea?
I am a pilot and own a 1980 model Cessna 172xp. I fly using the traditional panel w/ six pack instruments and VOR, ADF, and all that jazz. I believe that the glass cockpit as seen in newer planes is a bad idea due to my encounters with my portable GPS giving me problems (losing signal, cutting off, etc…). I believe this digital nonsense is way more faulty than the analog. Can anyone tell me more about the glass cockpit. Maybe someone who owns a plane with one. Thanks.
Electronic displays (glass cockpits) are more reliable than the mechanical versions they replace. Additionally, they are easy to reconfigure and update with improved software.
While I cannot comment on your particular situation, after more than 12000 hours of flight time in both, I believe the electronic versions offer much better information and reliability. If I were spec-ing an airplane and had the choice, I would choose the glass displays over mechanical instruments

When you say “GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system review”, you are basically dealing with a wide range of topics. This is for the fact that there are so many GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews online and most of those GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews not only tackled one specific subject of interest but ranges from the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)handheld receivers to in car navigation GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews and other notable GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)systems or devices that the people used today.
So to tackle that matter, I would rather present the general nature of the noted GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews online with a general focus on the overall concept of the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers since the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers are the best purchased and widely used today.
In some of the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews many noted that the use of a GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system will lead you to a right place. Of course you all know that knowing where you are and where you are going is one of the important things in life and as such, the use of GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system is necessary to make you identify easily and quickly your destination.
For that fact, many of the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews considered that a GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receiver, for that matter, is just a simple tool that will need the company of a map and a compass. The GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews youll-noted the simple act of purchasing a GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)unit and head for the unfamiliar country for some adventures is not a good action without the aid of the map and a compass. With such claims in most of the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews, the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)companies youre encouraged to design their advanced GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers with the accompaniment of map and with the ability of a compass.
In line with that matter, among the many topics discussed in most GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews are the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers such as the Lowrance GlobalMap/-E 100, Magellan Pioneer, Magellan 2000XL, Magellan tracker, and the Eagle Explorer. With such topics, the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews mainly tackled some of the issues surrounding those certain receivers. And also the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews handled some ansyours to the questions regarding the effectiveness of those GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers that are mostly mentioned in most of the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews.
Lastly, some of those GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews that tackled those above mentioned GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers usually discuss the main functions and compositions of those GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers. Also, as a GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system review, just like some of the reviews, generally present both sides of the argument, whether those GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)receivers that are commonly mentioned in GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews are effective or not. With that alone, the GPS - ( GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)system reviews aid the people in their decisions and choices.
Need info on purchasing a handheld GPS which is applicable for aviation, and finding my way out of the woods..
I asked this question in another forum, but didn’t get a satisfactory answer. I have checked out Garmin, Lowrance, and Magellan. Lowrance has the Airmap 600C, which is the closest for aviation purposes, and price range, but I couldn’t get any good info for its’ terrestrial use, if it even has any, for that particular model. Could never get through the Lowrance phone line to talk to a customer service rep, after 2 weeks of trying, but was always put on an indefinite automated hold! I also checked out the Garmin 96C. The Lowrance seems to have more for less. As a student GA(general aviation) pilot, I am interested in a handheld unit that would serve me in the air, as well as if I had to ditch in a forrest, or unknown area, etc,and lived to walk my way out! Just trying to find a unit that has the best of both aviation and terrestrial applications. Want to stay within the 300-500 dollar range. Can be flexible within a 100 dollars more if necessary. Any good suggestions?

I basically want one that has 360 degree protection, mute function, all bands of laser/radar (including the new Ku bands in Europe), POP instant on, good range is undetectable and has low level of false alarms. Some extras would be nice.
However, stuff like GPS, vocal signals (stuff that tells you which band its detecting), anything that displays my speed, detects speed cameras or fixed traps or live updates are stuff that i would generally not want as they don’t add to the protection but more to convenience.
So far I have eyed the Cobra Xrs 9345 as it covers most of these and is cheap.
But I have gotten mixed reviews from friends. Are there any other brands that are good that don’t have so many bell’s and whistles? (something similar to the cobra)
