GPS WHICH ONE IM SO CONFUSED AND NEED HELP!?
I am so new to this….
Alright, 1st which model is good..I am looking on Amazon at the Garmin nuvi 255 W 4.3 inch widescreen portable. I am moving over to the east coast of Fl and I definitely will need a good gps system.
Is there a one step up version? What else do I need to purchase w it? And in the vehicle, does this plug in to thew cigarette lighter? Should I consider a step up on the system? Does a Garmin nüvi 260W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable perform better?
I am only using this to find my way through the east coast when I move and I need one..a good one.
Please help me!?
Garmin 260W is sleek design and has same great features as 255W, but 255W have more features.
The great features is same : text-to-speech, 4.3-Inch diagonal touch screen color display.
These are difference between 255W and 260W.
255W : Waypoints/favorites/locations = 1,000, has FM traffic compatible, has MSN Direct compatible, has Speed limit indicator, has Where Am I?, has Qwerty or ABC keyboard (choose keyboard layout).

How to Compare GPS Units to Get the Best One For You
In order to figure out which of the many GPS systems is best for you, you need to compare GPS units in some logical way. To do this you need to first understand what is being offered and how much that’s going to cost you. If you know your budget, you can narrow down the selection quite a bit. After that, it’s just a matter of fine tuning what extra features you want.
By GPS units, I mean the kind you attach to your car’s windshield, not the kind you take hiking with you. There are a lot of GPS systems out there and finding the right one seems confusing at first. In this article, I’m going to focus mainly on systems built by Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan, since they are the biggest manufacturers.
All GPS units keep track of where you are and calculate routes to where you’re going. Here’s a list of what virtually every GPS device can already do. Think of this as standard equipment.
All GPS’s
* Give you directions with voice prompts.
* Have a touch screen.
* Have different views or representations of their maps.
* Include a database of Points of Interest (POIs).
* Come with maps of the lower 48 states.
* Automatically calculate your best route.
This is all great, but it’s the extra or optional features that are the real kicker!
According to how much you want to pay, you can get:
* Spoken street names, instead of just plain voice prompts.
* A larger 4.3-inch screen–measured diagonally.
* Maps of Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
* Incorporate Bluetooth.
* Tell you real time traffic and weather.
* Can be used as a digital picture viewer, audio book player, or mp3.
* Have a much larger POI database.
What you really need to do now is to figure out how much you’re willing to pay, and then see which makes and models will fit your budget. Let me give you a few examples.
A basic GPS costs $200 or less. For that you can buy a really nice unit from Garmin, Tom Tom, or Magellan which can do all of the basic features listed above. Three possible models are the Garmin nuvi 200, the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition, or the Magellan Maestro 3100.
If you don’t need Bluetooth for hands free calling, or directions that actually say the name of the street (but which do say “turn right,” or something to that effect), then a basic unit may easily be all you need to buy.
If you want all the bells and whistles, then you’re going to have to pay more. The top of the line unit that Garmin makes costs in the neighborhood of $900, but it can do everything for you except tie your shoes. (They have a model coming out next year that can do just that! Just kidding!)
GPS units are great and there are a ton of other features you can get with these devices. What you need to do now is decide on your budget and get online and shop.

My son is starting school next year and I really want to find a GPS locator that is small enough to fit in his shoe or belt. I have only been able to find the big bulky ones for kids online. Anyone know where to find what i’m looking for??
I highly recommend that you don’t get a GPS for your kid. I know you’re just considered for his safety, but I think it’s a horrible phenomenon; parents tracking their children with GPS. Just a few decades ago, we didn’t even have cellphones, let alone GPS’s!
I think you can generally trust schools to keep an eye on the kids, and when they get old enough to go off on their own, with friends and such, you can get him a cellphone.

I’ve got a big dilemma choosing a new cellphone for myself. Im thinking about Nokia N95, my brother living in Indonesia wants to give it as my birthday gift, my question is.. Does Indonesian N95 (Asia Pacific Version probably) GPS work in USA? Because its preloaded by ASIA PACIFIC map, and actually USA maps can be downloaded from nokia official website for free. So, i just wanna make sure that the gps will work in USA after downloading the USA map. I live in Russellville, Arkansas.

Yes it will work.
But as you say, you need to get the Map Loader software from Nokia’s website and download the US maps you need.
As I recall, the US maps are split up by state, so just get the ones you need because otherwise you’re gonna use a heck of a lot of memory up loading the whole of the US onto it.

Problems with a new 2010 Subaru Forester built-in GPS Navigation system.?
We’re finding that even with the instruction pictures, the Subaru GPS is virtually useless, almost continually wanting us to do a u-turn. We’re resorted to using our older-trusty Garmin nuvi, which is very intuitive and logical to use. I can’t imagine why such a poor/complicated system is included with a fine car. I’ll be contacting the dealer/manufacturer for some compensation if we can’t get the unit working correctly..Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.
