Hi all,i really hope that someone out there can solve this issue for me.
Ok i bought a few GPS units (All the Same) from China,but when i tested them i have found that everyone freezes up and needs to be reset everytime (Very annoying).The GPS will work ok for approx 30 mins then it freezes for the first time,then after reseting it will freeze about every 10 mins.
The GPS is running on MSD (meiseda) software or motherboard?
im running igo8 software and New Zealand (igo) maps. May i add that i have also tried igo amigo software and still have the freezing problem so im assuming it the GPS units themselves or the software that runs on the units ie the MSD?
I have set the time with the GPS satalites and changed and saved the “BAUD & PORTS” to the required settings and still same problem.
Can anyone pleeeeease out there help?

your first mistake was buying from china. you might find getting quality is best served in usa. most usa products work great all the time without problems. why not just contact who you bought the gps’s from instead of posting this in yahoo. we have no clue what garbage you bought. you could have any clone - you did say you purchased in the capital of clone ville. most products purchased there are crap and will be problem prone, so i guess you got what you paid for. my best recommendation is to return the crap for a full refund - o, wait you probably cant do that. also keep in mind if you run a pirated version of igo8 that this will happen, you might want to contact the software makers of igo8 and actually pay them for their hard work on the software, maybe then your so called gps will work. stop trying to cut corners and cheat and maybe your gps’s will work - next time buy usa and next time buy a license for the software - hopefully that will help ya

The satellites basically each send out a highly accurate time code (they have an atomic clock on board, and all send the same time signature at once), and what is called an “Almanac”, which is basically data defining the orbit, to indicate what lat/long/altitude the satellite will be at a particular time. The signal will take a measurable amount of time to reach the receiving station.
Knowing where the satellite is (because of the almanac), the GPS receiver can compare one satellite with the location and time, with a few others to determine where it is.
As for visualizing it, picture the satellite transmitting a wide cone. The farther you get from the center of the cone, the “older” the time signature, which you can picture as a ring of a particular size, bigger for the older time signature. With that, it can compare the time signature of the nearest satellite, to possibly determine how far out you are from that satellite’s location (which the receiver knows because of the almanac.) With the received time of a few satellites (and their virtual rings), you can calculate where the number of rings intersect.

I have a Magellan Maestro 3100 portable gps unit. The initial update failed and now the wont work. help!?
I believe the software has been deleted or corrupted (on the gps root drive). Can anyone tell me what to do?
Here’s a MANUAL approach that is on the web that will update and fix the problem. Magellan says an updated fix will be posted soon. I tried it and it worked for me - no promise, but check it out:
1. Unzip downloaded file
2. Use WinRAR to extract the executeable (they will all be in a file)
3. Create USBTRANS file in SYS folder on unit (or copy the backup that was made on the SD card)
4. Copy contents of COPY_GROUP 1, 11, 13, 17 to SYS/USBTRANS
5. Copy contents of COPY_GROUP 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 to MAP
6. Copy contents of COPY_GROUP 4, 6, 12, 14, 15 to APP
(NOTE: in order to copy over group 14, you will need to copy the contents of TNShell_BitmapVenus2 to the same folder on the unit, that way the folder isn’t just replaced)
7. Copy contents of COPY_GROUP 9 and 10 to SD card
8. Copy contents of COPY_GROUP 16 to USR
9. Once copied over, unplug the unit and it should reset itself. Then all should be working
DON’T FORGET to put in the UNIT_ID.DAT file back in the USBTRANS folder if you haven’t already.

i currently have 3 mths to go on my at&t contract with my blackberry curve (amazing phone) & want to get a touchscreen phone. i cant get verizon in my area so i cant get the storm. & at&t is the only carrier that has good service in my area. that leaves me with perhaps the iphone. i know i would be making some sacrifices such as mediocre gps nav app etc, but i think the iphone despite it’s obviuos flaws is the best “touchscreen” phone so far.

You would only need itunes. And the really the only reason you need it is to upload music and install apps and upgrade the software on the phone itself. Most apps are free. But if you like sending picture messages, then u are out of luck on the iphone b/c it does not have the MMS feature. however AT&T does have a cpl other new touch screen phones.
