Garmin’s new gps (global positioning system) unit, Garmin street pilot c330, is a great little device to those who want to easily and quickly find unknown destinations.  There are various navigational and non-navigational features that make traveling a fun experience.

The Garmin street pilot c330 does not require the user to load the maps because it already has preloaded maps that include many different points of interest ranging from malls, restaurants, gas stations, to historical landmarks.  This unit is an excellent navigator and can easily guide the user through busy city streets and large traffic jams.  This unit also allows the user to enter their own personal points of interest and save them to the memory card that is installed in the gps system.  The Garmin street pilot c330 allows users who are traveling in foreign countries to enter maps of the respective countries.  

The touch screen feature makes this product easy for anyone to use, and the voice modulation makes it simple to drive a car and listen to directions at the same time.  Another great feature is that the unit has a suction cup attached to it which allows the user to mount it to their windshield so the screen can be easily seen.  This also allows the Garmin street pilot c330 to move easily from car to car.  

The Garmin street pilot c330 is also equipped with a great LCD screen that displays a 3D map with street names that can be easily viewed.  This unit also tells you exactly how long you have to go before you come to a turn.  Therefore you can easily anticipate what you have to do.  If you accidently go in the wrong direction, the Garmin street pilot c330 can swiftly figure out where you are and can easily put you back on track to your desired destination.

how can i get free update downloads for my Garmin Streetpilot c330 GPS. In the direction, it says that i can, free of charge, download up to date direction. I never seen any key number to use it with the free download. Any idea??

You can download free firmware updates for your unit. However, you do not get a free map update unless a new version of the maps comes out within a year of when you purchased and registered the unit with Garmin. Garmin has a website you can go to and enter your serial number to see if you are eligible for a free map update.

A Navigation device commonly known as a global positioning system is used to track locations, either where you currently stand or where you want to go. Now the latest GPS to hit the market is the c330 Garmin GPS manufactured by the Garmin Company and commonly called the Street Pilot. As the common name suggests, this device is as good as a pilot’s navigational system except that this can be used by someone driving a car.

What sets the c330 apart from other GPS devices is its City Navigator software that comes preloaded with all the necessary maps and routes for any destination of your choice. It has an intuitive touch screen that is visible in strong sunlight and its big color display screen makes it very easy on the eyes. It provides automatic route calculation to any destination you have in mind. While the maps can be zoomed in and out, the device uses an algorithm that adapts efficiently to the speed of your PDA or laptop which prevents any irritating slowing down when in use.

Now the device looks good, with a designed aimed at simplicity and no extra complicating buttons, with a 3.5 inch diagonal color screen, it weighs a little over 9 ounces, highly portable and is easily kept in the vehicle with the lever activated suction windshield mount. It has got a backlit display and an odometer which comes in handy as it can determine how far one has traveled up to 1/100th of a mile. The touch screen interface is highly user friendly and provides route planning along with re-routing options.

It can be connected to any other electronic device with its USB cable. Its rechargeable lithium battery provides for up to 4 hours of battery life and it doesn’t get heated up either. There is also an external connector for better signal reception. The navigation features are really straightforward and simple, all the maps come preinstalled and other maps of any cities can be loaded and stored with its SD card slot.

Your choice of interest points can be marked on the device such as restaurants, movie theatres, gas stations and anything else you could possibly want to know. Finding your way has never been easier. Garmin has always provided quality devices in navigation; they have succeeded once again with their c330.

The 2200T has a current retail price of around $400. For that price, it’s in competition with Garmin’s c530, which is essentially a c330 that’s been upgraded with SiRF’s receiver. If you want absolute ease-of-use, then I recommend that Garmin c530 over the RoadMate 2200T. Garmin’s interface is slightly easier to use than Magellan’s one and their routing engine can’t be beat at all. However, if you fancy more options such as multi-destination routing, route exclusion, Text-to-Speech, and a traffic jam add-on capability, or are interested in a cross-over GPS that can be upgraded for outdoor purposes, therefore you should opt for the RoadMate. If you are thinking about an Alpine Blackbird, or TomTom ONE, I recommend the Magellan RoadMate 2200T over both those units. The 2200T is a better unit than the One or the Blackbird. Compared to Garmin, it is more a question of your needs and waits.
